Latah County Library District Summer Reading Program / June 6 – August 8
Youth ages 0–18 are invited to participate in the Latah County Library District’s Summer Reading Program. This year’s theme is A Universe of Stories. The first day to register at any of the seven branches of the Latah County Library District is Thursday, June 6, and participants will have until August 8 to complete three Reading Missions. This year, Moscow Public Library will be giving out books at registration to those who sign up for Summer Reading.
The first mission is to log 10 days of reading on an assigned reading log. Mission Two is to achieve a bingo on a Book Bingo card. The third mission will require participants to blackout the same Book Bingo card, accomplishing every item listed. For each mission completed, participants will need to check in at their preferred branch library to receive a prize and be entered to win grand prizes.
This year will not include an online component, but will be done entirely on paper and in person each library.
All seven branches of the library will host awesome weekly events. Youth and their grownups are invited to these events, whether or not they have registered for Summer Reading.
On Thursday, June 6 at 10:30 a.m., Moscow Public Library will celebrate the start of Summer Reading with an event featuring Luke Boyce as L-Bow the Clown. L-Bow wows and creates laughter with his great all-ages performance set to family friendly music. His show includes juggling, unicycling, animal ballooning, and a variety of acrobatic, balance and old fashioned clowning with audience participation.
Juliaetta Community Library will host the Hill and Valley Garden Club and Polly Dennler who will present a garden event on Thursday, June 6 at 10:30 a.m. to start Summer Reading off right.
Troy Community Library will also host a kick-off event on Thursday, June 6 at 10:30 a.m. where participants can complete an “Out of this World” craft.
On Friday, June 7 at 11:00 a.m., L-Bow the Clown will encore his performance at Potlatch Public Library.
A full list of Summer Reading events can be found on the event calendar on the library’s website.
In addition to in-house Summer Reading events, Miss Stacie and Miss Bailey of Moscow Public Library can be found out in the community for Entertainment in the Park, 6:00 p.m. Thursday evenings at East City Park during the month of June, and at Library in the Park at Lena Whitmore Park on Friday, June 21 and Friday, July 26 at 11:30 a.m. during Moscow School District’s Free Summer Lunch Program for a storytime and/or a STEAM activity.
