Latah County Library District Summer Reading Program 2019
Youth ages 0–18 are invited to participate in the Latah County Library District’s Summer Reading Program. This year’s theme is A Universe of Stories. The first day to register at any of the seven branches of the Latah County Library District is Thursday, June 6, and participants will have until August 8 to complete three Reading Missions.
All seven branches of the library will host awesome weekly events. Youth and their grownups are invited to these events, whether or not they have registered for Summer Reading.
On Thursday, June 13 at 10:30am, Juliaetta Community Library will host Galaxy Rock Painting at Centennial Park in the Juliaetta baseball fields. Participants will paint rocks with galactic twist.
Genesee Community Library will host Raptor biologist, Janie Veltkamp for a program called Birds of Prey on Thursday, June 13 at 11:00am. Veltkamp has rescued, treated, and released back to the wild thousands of eagles, hawks, owls, falcons, and ospreys. The biologist will be bringing live birds, therefore this program is recommended for ages 6 and up, children must sit through the program.
Birds of Prey will encore at Troy Community Library at 1:00pm on Thursday, June 13.
On Friday, June 14 at 11:00am, Moscow Public Library will host the Traveling Lantern Theatre Company in the Great Room in the 1912 Center. Traveling Lantern will perform a play called, “My Mother the Astronaut”. In this story, Aquarius' mom is an astronaut and today is "Take your child to work day". Aquarius can't wait to go to NASA and find out what it's like to be in space! They visit Mission Control where she meets scientists and engineers who show her what they do and she learns all about space travel. Her imagination blasts off and she dreams of incredible journeys through the cosmos!
Traveling Lantern has been educating and entertaining children nationwide since 1985. Their mission is to bring great stories to children, to draw them into an active theater experience, to excite their minds and to tickle their imaginations.
Potlatch Public Library will host a Summer Reading event all about Summer Safety on Friday, June 14 at 11:00an, Participants can visit safety stations, play games, make a portable first aid kit, and learn ways to stay safe outdoors this summer.

In addition to in-house Summer Reading events, Miss Stacie and Miss Bailey of Moscow Public Library can be found out in the community for Entertainment in the Park, 6:00pm. Thursday evenings at East City Park during the month of June, and at Library in the Park at Lena Whitmore Park on Friday, June 21 and Friday, July 26 at 11:30am during Moscow School District’s Free Summer Lunch Program for a storytime and/or a STEAM activity.
